Wanda will be laid to rest beside her husband, Wayne, at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service. Friends may visit at the funeral home until 8 this evening with the family receiving visitors from 6 to 8.

Wanda passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2008. She was 84.

Born in Monticello, Ark. on March 5, 1924, to Albert and Mae (Perkett) Ary, Wanda was reared and educated in the Bushyhead community. Following her schooling, Wanda and Wayne Russell married in a Claremore ceremony on Oct. 22, 1942. The young couple made their home and raised their five children in Claremore.

Wanda's first priority was her family. As the matriarch of her large family, she prayed for, loved, taught and nurtured them with care. Almost equally important to Wanda were relationships with her church family with whom she enjoyed socializing. Though she played dominos for fun, she took her game seriously and most often came away the winner. She loved searching for bargains at garage sales with her daughter, JoAnn and entertaining her precious great grandkids.

Those family members who survive this loving mother, grandmother and friend include her children, JoAnn Cherry of Claremore, Jeanette Knorr of Sacramento, Calif., Garry Russell of Pryor, Faith Anglen and husband, Oather, of Sperry, and Dale Allen Russell and wife, Susie, of Toms Brook, Va.; 16 grandchildren including Charlie Redfern who Wanda and Wayne raised in their home; and 28 great grandchildren; her brother Bob Ary of Spokane, Wash.; and her sister, Edna Mae Dudley of Claremore.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Bill Cherry, brother Elmer Ray Ary and grandsons Garrett Martin, Tyelor Redfern and Gary Martin, Jr.
