The friend's name is Bertha Lundqvist. I [Bo Holm] cannot securely identify her. Perhaps she is identical with a married woman Bertha Lundqvist (born 1868), without children, who lived in Eslöv at that time. Bertha has a clear similarity with the woman in the picture from Helsingborg/Eslöv. If it is the same woman she was married, because Bertha married before 1891.
The picture was taken in Östra Klagstorp in 1901. The year is included in the lower right corner, on the white dress.

Following are some thoughts about this picture from Bo Holm, a genealogist from Malmo Sweden.
"The photographer Frans Arvidsson was active in Helsingborg between 1885 and 1896. During that time, he also had a studio in Eslöv. I do not believe the picture is taken in Helsingborg, but in Eslöv. The picture is therefore taken between 1885 and 1896. The estimated age of the persons, points on 1890-1896, this means before Magda's birth or after.
A portrait of two men and two women usually means that they are linked to each other: Relatives, couples or close friends. Mathilda had four sisters and two brothers. I know Mathilda is the woman on the left, from the viewer. I believe primarily that these persons can be siblings.
The man on the left, behind Mathilda, does not appear to belong to Mathilda. He is turning halfway from her. The man on the right has his hand on the chair and seems to possess the woman in front of him. Perhaps they are married or a couple. Of course, this is amateurish reflections on body language, but I see it that way. I do not see two couples, perhaps one.
We know nothing about the relationship between Mathilda and Magda's father before and after Magda's birth. The fact that they left her away and not even acknowledged to be her parents does not speak for a deeper relationship and not for a relationship after Magda's birth. Against that background and the fact that they were not married, I suppose their relationship ended at Magda's birth. I do not believe that Magda's father is on that picture."

Mathilda in Lund, Sweden, 1893 - and not 1898 (according to professional Swedish genealogist Susanna Auerbach.) Mathilda gave birth to a daughter, Magda Fritzine, in Lund on January 9, 1893.

The Åkerblom family. Seated with her dog is Anna Chaterina "Tina" Waldemarsson Åkerblom, Matilda's older sister. She was born on October 30, 1866 and died on April 14, 1941. Behind her is her husband, Lars Hansson Åkerblom, a school teacher. The names of the four children - and the dog - have yet to be ascertained.

This is a painting of Matilda's childhood home in Råröd, Sweden. The house was destroyed by fire - or simply razed - in the 1930's. This piece is currently in the collection of Matilda's granddaughter Judy Nelson Way of Elizabeth, Colorado.
