Rev. Thomas Kennerly was born 22 Jan 1790 in Augusta County, Virginia, the son of Rev. James Kennerly, Jr. and Mary "Molly" Bear.

Thomas married Ann Susan Carnegy on 30 May 1822 and they had six children together: Sarah, William, Joseph, Elizabeth, Caleb and Louisa. They constructed the brick house at "Greenway Court" in 1828.

Although he was a Methodist minister, Thomas retired from active service in the pulpit after his marriage. In his later years he was a devoted fox hunter.

Thomas died 17 Mar 1853 at Greenway Court and is buried in the Greenway Court Cemetery with his wife.
