Mr. Southard was retired from Security Lumber and co-owner of Shorei-Ryu Karate Studio. He was born the son of Elmer and Emma Vaughn Southard. His wife, the former Sonja A. Hendrickson, whom he married Oct. 10, 1962, in Kankakee, died July 1, 2004. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was detached with the 3rd Marine Recon Unit.
Surviving are one son, Brad Southard of Joliet; three grandchildren, Dylan, Kasey and Katie; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Barbara "Sue" Hines of North Fort Myers, Fla., Ruby and Roland Thames of Round Rock, Texas, Joyce and Jerry Dunning of Cape Coral, Fla., Janice and Marshall Green of Texas, Lessie and Bill Clevenger of Cape Coral; and three brothers and one sister-in-law, James "Buck" and Patsy Southard of Blytheville, Ark., WM Southard of Cape Coral and John Granger of Kankakee.
His parents are deceased.
