Benjamin Gordon Beckstead, 81, died march 27, 1998 in Murray, Utah. Born September 25, 1916 in downey, Idaho to Percy Norman and Leona Celinda Hutchings Beckstead. Married Dorothy Marie Anderson in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 11, 1938, later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He was a professional boxer in his youth. He served in the Pacific Theatre of World War II and participated in the invasion and liberation of the Philippines. He was the meat department manager for Safeway and Albertsons. Served as Ward Clerk and Sunday School President in the LDS Church and had 27 years membership in Alcoholics Anonymous. Served as a Commander in the American Legion.

Survived by wife, Dorothy; son, Benjamin Gary Beckstead (Marjo); daughter, Lani L. Rowlins (Leon); Mary Ann Potter (Glenn); 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Eloise Beckstead Stokes (Frank); brother, Robert Byron Beckstead (Candice); and numerous nephews and nieces.

Funeral services Monday, March 30, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the Murray 21st Ward Chapel, 100 West 6100 South, where friends may call Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment, Murray City Cemetery. Goff Mortuary, Funeral Directors.
