PFC US ARMY, WORLD WAR II

JOHN A. BRASFIELD JR., 76, of Memphis, retired from the Memphis Police Department after 13 years and owner of Exxon Service Station for 23 years, died of heart failure Saturday at Methodist Hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Canale Funeral Directors with burial in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Captured in Italy, he was a prisoner of war for seven months during World War II. He received the Bronze Star, European Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, a Purple Heart and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a Mason and a member of Whitehaven Lodge. Mr. Brasfield, the husband of Peggy Chitwood Brasfield, also leaves two sons, John A. Brasfield III and Ronald P. Brasfield, both of Memphis; three sisters, Eula B. Young, Virginia B. Mansfield and Avron B. Rooks, all of Maury City, Tenn.; two brothers, Clyde Brasfield of Maury City and Jerry Brasfield of Memphis, and three grandchildren.
