MILTON-FREEWATER - Leona M. Smith, 89, of Milton-Freewater died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at her home.
Private services will be held at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was born May 8, 1919, on the family homestead in the Horse Heaven Hills area above Kennewick, Wash., to William and Ida Weaver Moore. She attended school in Benton City.
She moved to Milton-Freewater, where she married Raymond Freeze in 1940. They lived on Dry Creek outside of town and were involved in farming. They later divorced. She married Buck Williams in 1949 and they divorced in 1966. She married Jean Clark in 1967 and he died in 1972. She married Courtney Wheat in 1975 and he died in 1976. She then married Evan Smith in Renton, Wash., in 1977 and he died in 1999.
She owned Fashion Cottage Dress Shop on the Walla Walla Highway for several years and also was a fashion buyer for the Bon Marche in Walla Walla for 14 years. Dhe also worked in Boise, Idaho.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Marie Martin of Milton-Freewater; stepdaughters Mary Bullock of Kirkland, Wash., Lorna Cheldelin of Arvada, Colo., and Linda Wing and Vicki Herrle, both of Oregon City; stepsons Larry Smith of Port Orchard, Wash., and Gary Clark of Sammamish, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Melvan Moore, and grandson Ryan Bullock.
