Alfred J. Alleger, 78, who served with the California Highway Patrol for 40 years, died Tuesday in the Mercy Hospital.
He was a native of Bolivar, Mo., and joined the Marine Corps in 1927. He took his basic training in San Diego and was discharged in 1931.
He began work with the CHP in Imperial Valley. He and Lillian Foster were married in Winterhaven in 1938. They made their home in San Diego, where she was employed with the Department of Motor Vehicles. He retired in 1963 and for a time the couple lived in Salinas, returning to San Diego in 1980.
Lewis Colonial Benbough Mortuary is in charge of cremation. Inurnment will be in the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. There will be no services. Mr. Alleger is survived by his wife, who suggests memorial contributions to favorite charities.
