Barbara Jane Fry married about 1782 in Bedford Co., VA to John Ely, son of Thomas and Mary (Rawlings) Ely. John, his father, and brothers Thomas Ely, Jr. and William Ely served in the Revolutionary War. a few years after the war, the extended Ely family moved to Montgomery Co., VA. Then John scouted the Virginia frontier and the families sold their land and purchased land in Lee County about 1796-1798.
