He lived his entire life near Ruskin, except when as a child his family moved to Oregon for three years. Like his father, Oscar was a farmer. He attended Bethany Lutheran Church, Ruskin and it was at Bethany he met his future bride, Thora, in their confirmation class. He attended country school south of Ruskin, the Nelson College of Applied Science. He completed the two year course in three semestesr (sic).
On Feb. 3, 1920, he was married to Thora Petersen. Three sons were born to this union, Donald, Willard and Benjamin. Benjamin was killed in a tractor accident in 1977. The couple retired from the farm in 1976 and moved to town.
Last July his wife entered the Nelson Good Samaritan Home. Oct. 11, she entered Parkview Haven, Deshler. He joined her there Oct. 19.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Ernest, Albert and Ansgar Christensen; and three sisters, Serena Hansen, Mary Martens and Bertha Johanson.
Survivors include his wife, Thora, Deshler; two sons, Willard Christensen, Ruskin and Don Christensen, Riceville, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, at 2 p.m. from the Bethany Lutheran Church, Ruskin with Pastor Richard Buchholz officiating. Burial was in Spring Creek Cemetery near Ruskin. Megrue-Price Funeral Home, Superior, was in charge of arrangements.
