EDWARDSBURG - Myron C. Smith, 86, of Edwardsburg, passed to his rest on Saturday
at 8:20 p.m. February 7, 2009, at his home after an illness. He was born on May 22,
1922, in Wabash, IN, the son of Orla and Clara (Brane) Smith. He moved to the
Edwardsburg area in 1957 from Elkhart. He was married May 30, 1942, in Ft. Wayne,
to Cathryn R. Johnson, who passed away on April 12, 2005. Together, Myron and
Cathryn owned the Smith Implement Co. of Edwardsburg for many years. Surviving
are four children, Pamila and Kenny Maxwell of Edwardsburg, Melanie Smith of
Edwardsburg, Myron "Mike" Smith of Edwardsburg, Vaughn and Rita Smith of Elkhart.
There are eight loving grandchildren, Scott Smith, Kim (Brett) Crouch, Stacie (Darin)
Glavin, Todd (Darlene) Smith, Jason (Stacey) Tighe, Sarah Tighe, Michael Smith and
Matthew Smith. Also 11 great-grandchildren, Nicole Christopher, Danielle, Taylor, Erin,
Kamen, Nicholas, Jarrett, Drew, Emily and Jenalee; and four great-great-
grandchildren, Candace, Ryleigh, Mason and Logan. There are three siblings who
survive, Lauree McDaniel of Wabash, Patricia Redd of Warsaw and Armanda (Vance)
Faulkenberg of New Port Richie, FL. Those who preceded him in death were his parents
and a brother, Ansel Smith. Myron was a hard- working person who loved his family.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening and watching NASCAR. He served in the United States
Army, serving in the European Theater, and going on over 30 missions over Germany.
He was awarded four bronze stars and two oak leaf clusters. Friends may call on
Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West
Main St. (US-12) in Edwardsburg. The funeral service will be Wednesday, February 11,
at 1:30 p.m. in the Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church, 68961 Lake St., Edwardsburg.
Officiating will be Rev. Scott Scheel, pastor. Burial will follow at Edwardsburg
Cemetery, with the United States Army Honor Guard folding the American flag and
playing TAPS. Friends may call one hour before the service on Wednesday in the
church. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane,
St. Joseph, MI 49085; or to the Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 4,
Edwardsburg, MI 49112-0004.
