Lera worked for Richard Byrd at the Wabash Abstract Company. She also worked at H& R Block 10 years, as a custodian at the Wabash City Schools and Metropolitan School District of Wabash County, Honeywell Inc., Ford Meter Box, General Tire, and the US Census Bureau. Lera was a member of the United Methodist Church, attending the Wabash First, Lincolnville, and Asbury churches. She enjoyed crocheting and crocheted the Lord's Prayer for several churches. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, quilting, and especially spending time with the kids. Lera was known for sending cards to people on special occasions.
