A. Sue Bair, age 81, of Peoria Heights passed away at 6:55 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 25, 1927, in Bradford, Ala., to Fred R. and Grace M. (Self) Williams. She married William G. Bair on Jan. 20, 1949, in Mississippi. He passed away Aug. 16, 1998, in Peoria Heights.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Jr. and John Williams; and one son-in-law, Jim Bateson.

Survivors include three daughters, Janice Bateson of Joshua Tree, Calif., Sharon Bair of Aurora, Colo., and Mary Bair of Peoria Heights; Jackie Chapai of Peoria Heights, whom she considered her adopted daughter; two grandsons, Jason and Jacob Bateson of Joshua Tree; two sisters, Helen Brewer of Morris, Ala., and Barbara (Harold) Lawerence of Pinson, Ala.; one sister-in-law, Betty Nelson of Denver, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would also like to give a special thank you to her caregivers, Kathy Burger and Tina Wright.

Sue was a cook for Peoria Heights School District 325 for more than 23 years, retiring in 1992.

She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star Peoria Chapter 934 and was a member of the Peoria Heights Volunteer Fire Department, serving as an EMT for more than 25 years. She was also a member of the Peoria Heights Congregational Church.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Peoria Heights Rescue Squad.
