Rhoda Egger, the daughter of Andrew Egger and Nancy Bond Egger, married James Kolb in 1824 in South Carolina. They were the parents of 10 children.

Rhoda Egger and her husband both died of fever in 1835. Their children were then placed under guardianship of their paternal grandfather, Silas Kolb. When Silas passed away, the children were then placed into the custody of their Aunt Jane Oakley and her husband, Fielding.
