Opal L. Hopkins, died Saturday, April 13, 1996, at Regional Skilled Nursing Center, Columbia.
She was born Sept. 23, 1907, at Turley, daughter of W.E. and Ella Neal Duff. On June 14, 1925, in Houston, Mo., she married Don E. Garrison, who died June 14, 1951. On Sept. 24, 1966, in Mountain Grove, she married Orian Hopkins, who died June 7, 1981.
Mrs. Hopkins was a graduate of Houston High School and was an elementary school teacher near Huggins. She owned and operated a country store in Huggins, where she was also the postmaster. In 1953, she purchased the Mountain Grove Florist Shop and operated it until the time of her illness. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and past president of the Business and Professional Women's Club, and a board member of the McElldo and Ridgecrest senior housing complexes, all in Mountain Grove.
Survivors include two daughters, Billy Jo Gordon, Hughsville; Donna Jean Walker, Sioux City, Iowa; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a great great grandchild.
