Vivan was one of 7 children (5 sons, 2 dau) of John Finley and Jennie Elizabeth Day Downes. Born in KS, the family returned to IL prior to 1896. Her parents are buried in Stronghurst Cemetery, her grandparents James Andrew and Almira Ophelia Woodworth Norcross Downes are buried in Roseville Cemetery.
