Lela Kendall Jobe was born on December 8, 1902 in a log cabin which became the town of Strong City, Ok. She was the daughter of John Hiram and Nancy Elizabeth Harper Kendall. She departed this life to the loving care of her Savior on February 5, 1994 in Edmond, Ok.
The log cabin she was born in is now being restored at the City Park in Cheyenne, Ok. She attended school in Strong City, Cheyenne, Southwestern Oklahoma State University and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1928. She married Hugh D. Jobe in 1930, who preceded her in death in 1970. They lived in Strong City, Ok., Devine, Tx. and Gravette, Ar. She taught school for over 40 years in Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. Her life was devoted to her strong Christian faith, her family, and the many youngsters she taught.
She had recently joined the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Edmond. She had been a member of Highland Hills Baptist Church for several years when she resided at the Baptist Retirement Center in Oklahoma City. Since 1992, she resided at the Coventry Villa in Edmond. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; and two brothers. She is survived by eleven nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Highland Hills Baptist Church on Thursday, February 10, 1994 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be 3:00 p.m. at the Strong City Cemetery on the same day. Memorials may be made to the Baptist Retirement Center of OKC or the Strong City Cemetery Fund.
Central Baptist College in Conway Arkansas has a Lela Kendall Jobe Endowed Scholarship, established by Mr. John H. Warren in memory of Mrs. Lela K. Jobe to assist eligible Christian students who have a financial need.
