Gates, 87, of Winnfield died at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 1994, in Winn Parish Medical Center.
He was a native of Sikes and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Louise S. Gates of Winnfield; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas R. Straughan of Winnfield; one brother, C.B. Gates of Shreveport; one sister, Mrs. Horace Pepper of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Allen Autrey, Don Walsh, Harold Tarver, Tommy Bankston, Benny Smith and Mickey Simmons.
