Funeral services for Rev. C. B. Gates, 80, prominent native of Winn Parish and father of several Winn citizens, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Baptist Church in Monroe with the Rev. Filer J. Seal and Rev. H. H. McBride officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Rev. Gates, who had served more than 50 years in the active ministry, died at his home early Tuesday morning.

At the time of his death he was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church and had been active all his life in various church and civic affairs. He received his education at Old Mt. Lebanon Baptist College in Louisiana, and had served as pastor of a number of Baptist churches in this state. Many conversions were resultant from his tireless efforts as a Minister of the Gospel. His wife, Mary Emmons Gates, preceded him in death several years ago.

Surviving are four sons, R. W. Gates, Dodson, Houston and Reggie Gates, Winnfield, C. B. Gates III, Shreveport; three daughters, Mrs. Horace Peppers, Sikes, Mrs. E. L. Taylor, Sikes, and Mrs. J. C. Green, West Monroe; 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
