Son of William Frederick Aderhold (1798-1883) and his wife Alizira Danforth (1804-)

Enlisted in Company E, Georgia 35th Infantry Regiment on 15 Feb 1862. Promoted to Full 2nd Sergeant on 28 Jun 1863.

He was a Mason and an attorney in Campbell CO.

John is said to have been Sheriff of Campbell County, Georgia, at one time, per an account believed to have been compiled by Henley Campbell and sent to a FAG member in 1993 by Lee Campbell of Lincolnshire, IL. This document is reproduced in the "ADRHOLD/T Collection," by William Bailey CASH (self-published: Denver, CO, 1997), Book II, Volume III, pp. 601-02.

The booklet "Crosses of Honor: Awarded by Atlanta Chapter No. 18, United Daughters of the Confederacy, from 1900 to 1935," compiled by Isabell Smith Buzzett (Mrs. L. C), January 1983, p. 1, shows that J. C. Aderhold was awarded a Southern Cross of Honor in 1913 for his service as a Sergeant in Company E, 35th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, CSA. This was documented both in the Chapter record book and by an application on file with the Chapter.

The "Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia," compiled by Lillian Henderson (1960), Volume III, p. 883, reports that John C. Aderhold Sr. was captured 06 APR 1865 at Farmville, Virginia, and was released at Newport News, Virginia, on 25 Jun 1865 (also confirms his birth data as 09 FEB 1843 in Georgia).
