Lee B. Cozad

The death Tuesday of Lee B. Cozad, 59, Clifton City, has been ruled an accident due to a gunshot wound, according to Cooper County Sheriff Lylburn Mann, who investigated.

Mann set the time of Cozad's death at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The sheriff said Cozad had left a note at his home that he was going squirrel hunting in some woods nearby. Mann said a .22-caliber rifle Cozad was carrying apparently discharged as he was climbing a 4 1/2 foot fence. The bullet struck Cozad in the head.

Cozad's body was found about 6:30 p.m. lying beside the fence. The rifle was at his side, the sheriff said.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Gillespie Funeral Home with the Rev. J. R. Wallace officiating.

Larry Owen will sing, "Beyond the Sunset" and "In the Garden," accompanied by Mrs. C. C. Delozier at the organ.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sedalia.
