Eva was born in Centralia Washington, Sept. 10, 1916 to David and Laura Wilkey. She attended school in Sapulpa Oklahoma and graduated from Ponca City High School May 1935. On Dec 15 1935, she married Alfred "Allen" Allenburg Hartshorne. They lived in Ponca City where oldest daughter Teresa Anne was born in the hospital. The next early spring they moved to rural northeastern Oklahoma near Watts. They lived in a tent until a small house was build. Here, Allen ran a sawmill. Eva took care of the chickens, goats and a cow and a big garden. Three children were born at home, Larry Allen, David Loren and Reba Claire. They moved Tulsa where Allen worked at a Dairy and then in construction. Their last daughter Laura Helen was born in a local hospital. During Eva's pregnancy, Allen met a woman who's husband was over seas in WW 11 and they began an affair. Allen and Eva made their last move in 1944 to east Admiral Pl. Eva's father, David Wilkey died in Hulbert OK. Eva was hospitalized in Wagoner for stress and not able to attend. After, Allen left and filed for a divorce. It was denied by the Judge. Eva and children continued to live in the old house for years. Eva raised her children with out any help from family or from Allen, except a very small amount of child support. She took in ironing and alterations from neighbors. Life was good. Eva walked the children to parks, picnics, and to dime movies. Welfare was not a word she would have understood. Her children said in later years "we were so close and loved, we didn't know we were poor until older.." Eva worked as a cook at Walgreen and later worked at Douglas and The Tulsa World. She liked to travel, taking many trips with her children, Alaska, Hawaii and many other states. She moved twice to better houses. She enjoyed 10 grandchildren. She died on April 19, 1995. Her family has grown in numbers to include great grand children, one named Eva. Her memory is treasured until we see her again..
