CANTON - Russell J. Potter, 93, of 760 N. Ave. F died at 12:38 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Graham Hospital.

Born March 17, 1908, in Wilcox, Neb., to Newton S. and Anna James Potter, he married Lillian Negley in 1934 in Canton. She died in September 1961 in Canton. He married Ruth Adamson on Sept. 22, 1962, in Wheaton. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, John of Elmwood and Glenn (and Barbara) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one brother, Leslie of Bloomington, Neb.; two sisters, Wilma Faeh of Central City, Neb., and Dorothy Miller of Clermont, Fla.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, James, two brothers and four sisters.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

A longtime member of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association, he owned and operated Central Butane Gas Co. in Norris from 1946 until retiring in 1980.

He was a member of Evangelical Free Church in Canton.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Mike Barr will officiate. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be made to his church or Hillsdale Christian School in Hillsdale, Neb.
