Lois L. Blake, 79, of Parsons died at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at Labette Health in Parsons. Death followed a brief and unexpected illness.
She was born May 4, 1929, at McCune to Fred W. and Mary E. (Fowler) McMillan. She grew up in the McCune area and graduated from McCune High School.
On May 28, 1949, she married Robert F. "Bob" Blake in Oswego. She had lived in Parsons since her marriage. Her husband preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 2001.
In her early adult years, she worked at Robeson Drug Store in Parsons and in later years at the Daylight Donut Shop. She also provided child care in her home for many years.
She loved to play golf, fish, play bingo and host family events. She was a member of the Katy Golf Club and of the Women's Golf Association.
Survivors include four children, Patty Stewart of Warrensburg, Mo., Ron Blake of Parsons, Sandy Ellis of Parsons and Tim Blake of Rogers, Ark.; six grandchildren, Chris Hastings, Robert Hastings, Austin Blake, Tony Stewart, Drew Ellis and Alex Blake; four great-grandchildren, Brittany Hastings, Patrick Hastings, Amber Hastings and Tyler Hastings; a brother, Fred McMillan of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and three sisters, Bernieta Fincher of Pittsburg, Maxine Long Braman of Frontenac and Betty Ruth McMillan of Parsons.
Others preceding her in death include a brother, Lawrence McMillan; and two sisters, Doris Sexton and Berniece Long.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in McCune Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
