Joseph J. Hoopes
In Lancaster on Saturday morning, Joseph J. Hoopes, of West Chester, passed away, in the 66th year of his age. He had been in ill health for the past fifteen years.
He was born in Lebanon, on July 16, 1874, a son of the late Passmore W. and Annie J. Hoopes, but had spent the greater part of his life in this borough. He formerly conducted a milk business, and was later employed by the Denny-Tag Company.
He was a member of the West Chester Pioneer Corps, No. 1, and had been a member of the former Olivet Baptist Church, in which he had served as a member of the Board of Trustees.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Wilson Smith Hoopes, and four children, Mary R. and Joseph P., at home; Elizabeth, wife of Lewis V. Kosp, Norristown, and Margaret S., wife of Wilmer Conrad, of Norristown. A son, Harold, died in infancy. There are four grandchildren.
A brother, Passmore W. Hoopes, and four sisters also survive: Mame, wife of William K. Gibson, Oakbourne Road; Reba, wife of Bruce L. Worrall; Misses Florence and Hannah S. Hoopes, all of West Chester.
HOOPES- In Lancaster, on June 29th, Joseph J., husband of Anna W. S. Hoopes, in the 66th year of his age.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral without further notice from the Hicks Funeral Home, 229 S. High Street, West Chester, on Tuesday, July 2, at 2 p.m. D.S.T. Interment in Friends' Burial Grounds, Rosedale Ave. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening.
