Came to Indiana in about 1848, settled in Hamilton County Indiana. Married Eliza Peck 26Jan1854 in Hamilton County.
In April l873, disaster struck the family. First Delly, (Archa Della Beck) daughter of James N. & Sara C. Beck took sick and died on April 10th. She was Eliza's sister's daughter. Then Johnny, age 6, John and Eliza's son died on the 13th. Five days later on April 18, 1873 John Rinker died and on April 26th, daughter Amanda Jane died at the age of 9 yrs. In the period of 16 days four family members had died and it was thought that George, the oldest son, would also die, but somehow he got better. Three months earlier, Eliza's mother had passed away, making a total of five close family members who died in 1873. They are all buried in Newland Cemetery located just off St. Rd. 37 about 2 miles south of the intersection of 37 and 13. It was thought that the death of John, his two children and Delly was caused by brain fever.
