DIED – Mrs. Cecelia Petersen Gortat, wife of Gotlieb Gortat, of this city and a daughter of our respected townsman, John Crawford, died in this city Monday last from a stroke of apoplexy. Deceased had been ailing for two weeks past, but nothing of a serious nature was noticed until shortly before her death at 1 o'clock p.m. Monday. Her first husband, James Petersen, died about two years ago, leaving her seven children to support. She was married some time afterwards to Mr. Gortat a resident of this city. He, together with the bereaved children ranging from four years to twenty-two, as well as a large family, remain to mourn her loss. Deceased was born in Manti, March 28th, 1859. Funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday afternoon. A large number of sympathizers were present at the funeral, and followed the remains to the city cemetery. A case of this kind is certainly sad to think of, when reminded of the motherless children left to almost care for themselves.
BIRTH: Note that the obituary has 1859. The headstone has 1858.
