HORSES DRAG MAN TO DEATH AS CAR FRIGHTENS TEAM---Ferron; Nathaniel Crawford died at his home here Wednesday night as the result of an accident which occurred at noon the same day.
Crawford was returning from his ranch with a wagon box of his. He was driving south on Main street, when Mrs. Frank Blackburn passed him in a car with a loose chain, which frightened the horses and caused them to run away. They had not run more than a few hundred yards when the wagon struck a guard rail which threw Crawford to the ground. He was caught underneath the wagon and dragged for about 15 yards.
Two small boys returning from school at noon saw the accident and reported it to the nearest neighbor, Herb Nelson, who took Crawford to his home. He died at 8:45 p.m. as a result of injuries received. He suffered several bad cuts on the head a broken wrist, a dislocated shoulder and internal injuries.
He was born September 12, 1861, at Manti, a son of John and Cecelia Sharp Crawford. He married Evelyn Lowry of Manti. Crawford was a farmer and cattle man and was an active Church member. He filled a mission to the Eastern States. He served as a mayor two terms and as a board member several years.
He is survived by his widow and the following sons and daughters; Mrs. Surelda Ralphs and Mrs. Theora Oveson, Ferron, Elwood Crawford, Los Angeles; Carlyle Crawford, Rochester, and Juanita Crawford, Salt Lake.
Funeral will be held in the Ward Chapel at Ferron Sunday.
