Frances was active in her church and very strong in her faith. She raised a family of seven on her own and taught herself to drive in 1949.
She enjoyed music and sewing, and gave her time teaching at a youth detention center. She will be greatly missed and in our hearts forever.
She was welcomed into the gates of heaven by her loving daughter, Eleanor Marie Pankau, and her son, Joe Barrera Jr.
She is survived by her sons, Jesse Barrera and wife Lillie, Edward Barrera, and Robert A. Hobbs; daughters Virginia Cervera and husband Ramiro, and Elizabeth Nickell and husband Bob; brothers Maximo, Benito, and Lupe Gonzales; her sisters, Maria Alvarez, Anita Castillo, and Ascencion Grimes; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Thanksgiving was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, in St. Luke's Catholic Church in San Antonio.
