Emma Nevada Payne Mitchell
Emma Nevada Payne was born August 5, 1867 at Tennessee the daughter of Chauncey Smith Payne and Cynthia Florilla Chipman Payne.
The 1880 U. S. census shows the family to be living in Jackson, Texas County, Missouri.
Emma married Charles William Mitchell on November 24, 1887, at Texas County, Missouri. All of their children were born in Missouri, Bessie Lee, Grace L., William McKinley, and Barney McCoy Mitchell. The 1900 U. S. census shows the family still living in Jackson. Emma's parents, Chauncey, Cynthia Payne, and Carl Brackett were living with them. They had taken Carl in when his mother died in childbirth in 1894. He was the nephew of Emma's sister-in-law, Sarah Louise Brackett Payne, the wife of her brother, Chauncey W. Payne. In 1910 they had moved to Peggs, Oklahoma and there they resided until Emma's death, January 27, 1918.
