OBITUARY: Martin Miller, old resident and highly esteemed of Johnson Township, died Wednesday (Sept. 5th, 1906) of last week, after a long illness. The writer knew intimately ever since he located in this county. He was unpretentious, honest and obliging and had a high conception of manhood. No better neighbor could be found anywhere. Modest and unassuming, his judgment was good on all important questions. When his life went out the county lost a model citizen. Afflictions the last few years made life a burden and when the end came, "to die was gain," In saying this we pay him a just tribute "Riches of grace" count for much more in the world to come than wealth here. Martin Miller was born in Preston County, West Virginia October 4,1829, and departed this life September 5, 1906, he being 76 years, 11 months and 1 day old. He was married to Mary E. Beaver, July 28, 1852. In 1856 he left his boyhood home and moved to Vernon, Van Buren County, Iowa. He resided there three years and then moved to Missouri in 1859, where he has resided until the time of his death. To this union was born two sons and three daughters, who survived to mourn their loss and also twelve grandchildren. He was converted in his youth and joined the M.E. Church and ever since remained a faithful member. He died in the full hope of a better life and often remarked in his last sickness when done with this life he would be at home with his Savior
