Funeral for Dorothy Bankston Watts, 63, formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., will be Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Westside Baptist Church with Dan Craig and Pastor George Smith officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.
Burial will be in Sterrs Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Watts, who died Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at her residence, was born Sept. 5, 1942, in Decatur to Willie Bankston and Dora Lee Bankston. She graduated from Alabama A&M University with a bachelor of science degree in Home Economics. She also received a master's degree and an EDS in administration from Brooklyn College, Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Mrs. Watts taught 30 years with the Brooklyn School System. She was a member of New Frontier Baptist Church in Brooklyn. After retiring in 1997, Dorothy returned to Decatur and reunited with Westside Baptist Church serving as clothes bank coordinator. Her father, Willie Bankston Sr., preceded her in death.
She leaves a loving mother, Dora Lee Bankston of Decatur; one brother, Willie Bankston (Natalie) of Everett, Wash.; three sisters, Emma Grider and Carol Harris (Freddie), all of Decatur, and Rachael Davis of Hillsboro; one uncle, Kirk Bankston of Hillsboro; and two aunts, Christine Bankston of Hillsboro and Naomi Ashford of Los Angeles, Calif.
