Roma Jean Medberry Kiple, 75, Huron, S.D., formerly of Elgin, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at the Huron Regional Medical Center, Huron, SD, following a long illness. Roma was born on December 31, 1933, rural Elgin, Iowa, to Walter K. and Leona (Popenhagen) Medberry. She attended Highland Country School and Elgin High School in Elgin, Iowa.
Roma was united in marriage to John Kiple Jr., in 1951, at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union, Iowa. Three children were born to this union. Roma worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and held various other jobs in the area over the years. She enjoyed reading, fishing and singing in the choir. Roma loved spending time with her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include three children, John Edward Kiple III, Marshall, MN, Monte Kiple, Marshall, MN, Joni Kiple, Huron SD; three grandchildren, Nathan (Stephanie) Kiple, Nathan (Miranda) Kiple, Holly Traen; three great-grandchildren, Dominick and Landen Kiple, Brody Kiple, who is due to be born on January 30, 2009, and two brothers, Robert (Helen) Medberry, Elgin, and Jerry (Ruth) Medberry, Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, DeWayne Medberry.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 10:00 am at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Elgin, Iowa. The Rev. Rick Johnson will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, Iowa.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23, 2009, from 4-6 pm at the Leonard - Grau Funeral Home in Elgin, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.
