Hermann Heinrich Huenefeld was born 6 April 1845 in Warren County, MO. His parents were William and Christine (Stienker) Huenefeld. He was baptized 12 May 1844 at Immanuel UCC, Holstein, MO; Godparent at baptism was his grandfather, H. Stienker. In April of 1872, he married Wilhelmine Mathilda Dothage.

Henry H. Huenefeld, for many years one of the best known citizen of the Holstein community, died at his home there Friday, August 3, 1923, after an illness of cholera morbus of several days duration. His early career came to a close at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 27 days. On Tuesday before his death he was at work in the field near his home, and the following day he complained of not feeling well. On Thursday his condition became serious, and the following day entered into rest.
Mr. Huenefeld was born on a farm several miles northeast of Holstein, April 6, 1845, and grew to young manhood on the farm of his parents. HE attended the community school and the Sunday school of the Evangelical Church at Holstein. The old church record shows that he was christened May 12, 1845, by Rev. Joseph Rieger, and that he was the forty-ninth child in the congregations to receive holy baptism: With twenty four other young people, he was confirmed by Rev. Reiche on Easter Sunday, 1861, and thus by rite of confirmation became a memver of the church. During the remainder of his life he was one of the leading and most conscientious supporters of the church, and did much to make it the strong congregation it is today. He was united in hold matrimony with Miss Mathilda Dothage April 5, 18872. Both Mr. and Mrs. Huenefeld had their birthdays on April 6, and last year they celebrated their birthdays and their golden wedding anniversary in [on] that date. Their first home was established at New Boston where they resided for three years. Mr. Huenefeld and his brother, Fred Huenefeld, were engaged in the mercantile business at that place. In 1875 they moved to Holstein where the family home has been maintained to the present time, and where the deceased was a highly esteemed business man for many years.
Mr. and Mrs. Huenefeld became the parents of eight children, two of whom died in infancy. Their daughter, Emma, died in 1911, at the age of 25 years. He leaves to mourn his departure his faithful life's companion and the following children: Oscar Huenefeld, Mexico, Mo.; Mrs. Albert Buscher, St. Louis; Hugo Huenefeld of Topeka, Kan.; Walter Huenefeld of Treloar; and Mrs. Edward Lichtenberg of Holstein. He also leaves seven grand-children; one sister, Mrs. J. H. Koewing [Koenig], of San Antonio, Texas; two half-brothers, August and David, Brueggenjohann of Holstein, and one half-sister, Mrs. E. Dothage of Holstein, and many other relatives.
The funeral services were held Tuesday, August 7. After short services at the home, the remains were taken to the nearby church where a large company of relatives and friends and neighbors had gathered to pay a just tribute to one of the best citizens of the community. The pastor, Rev. Egger, paid the deceased a fitting tribute from the text, Gen. 28:15, 20, 21. His theme was "Nearer My God to Thee." The Men's Choir rendered several appropriate numbers, and after the service the weary body was laid to rest in the cemetery near the church. In the death of Mr. Huenefeld, the community and the county lost one of its most honorable and useful citizens.
