Alvera Knipstein, 95, of Hoagland, Indiana passed away Tuesday evening, November 20, 2018, at Adams Heritage in Monroeville.

She was born on January 5, 1923 of Decatur, Indiana to Julius Scheumann and Rosa (Luttman) Scheumann. Alvera was united in marriage to Alvin C. Knipstein on February 20, 1944 and he preceded her in death on October 10, 1956.

She was a lifelong member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen. Being involved in her church and its members was important to Alvera as she was involved with the Ladies Aid at the church, where she was a former officer.

Alvera was employed as a diamond die cutter by Hoosier Wire Die in Monroeville. Prior to working at Hoosier Wire Die, she worked for Fort Wayne Wire & Die and Fort Wayne Knitting Mills (during World War II).

Alvera enjoyed quilting. She enjoyed sharing her quilting creations with her family and others for family births, weddings, and graduations.

She is survived by three daughters, Charlotte Fuelling of Hoagland, Deborah (Leroy) Schull of Kearney, MO and Lois (Larry) Susin of New Brunswick, OH; two sons, Darrel (Nancy) Knipstein of New Haven, IN and Thomas “Tom” (Cathy) Knipstein of Livermore, CO; two brothers, Robert (Ruth) Scheumann and Alfred (Mary) Scheumann both of Hoagland, IN; sister-in-law, Helen Scheumann of Ossian, IN; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Alvera was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Delmore Fuelling and Ronald Edwards; two brothers, Edward Scheumann and Richard (Eldora) Scheumann; and mother and father-in-law, Christ and Frieda (Poehler) Knipstein.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen located at 11555 North US Highway 27 in Decatur with Pastor Peter Brock officiating and Rev. Christopher Maronde assisting. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Bingen.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen Parish Hall and from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday also at the church.
