When 12 years old, Ada wrote a fairy opera at the Texas Blind Institute, called Princess Florenda. Her future husband Ernest scored the opera, while at the school. The opera was performed in February 1916 with Ada playing Prince Alfred and Alloah Dallas Elks playing the title role.
