OBITUARY: The Manti Messenger, 2 July 1898:
A SAD ENDING.
Wednesday afternoon the body of Ole P. Madsen was brought to this city over the R. G. W. from Thistle. The most terrible accident which no doubt you have all heard of by this time happened at Thistle station, Utah, where the deceased met his fate by having a locomotive run over his body cutting him in two pieces.
As much as we can learn from a man who was there at the time, Mr. Madsen was crossing a track going west, there was an engine or a full train coming down this track which he successfully crossed. As there are a great many rails there he had another to cross. He did not see the lone engine on this one coming towards him before he was struck by it which immediately put an end to his existence upon this earth.
Several stories have been told by the newspapers which are entirely wrong, some stating he was a rail road man and was working in Thistle, at the time of his death was coupling ??? and all sorts of misleading stories.
Mr. Madsen had been employed by a man living at Price, herding sheep and as near as we can learn he was on his way home when he met with this horrible death.
He was born and raised in Manti, his father and mother both having passed away before him. He has a brother and a sister in Klondike. Madsen was about thirty years of age, unmarried and one of the most kind hearted and liberal men we know of. Many are the friends who mourn his loss.

Son of Ole Madsen & Johanna Andersen.
