Caleb Headlee was born November 5, 1788, in Morris County, New Jersey, the son of Reverend Elisha B. Headlee and Mary Fairchild. Caleb was the eldest of 11 children. On September 6, 1810, in Burke County, North Carolina, Caleb married Mary Molly Steele, daughter of Samuel Steele and Jannett Luckey. Mary was born December 27, 1784. Caleb and Mary had nine children: Mary, Jane, James, Margaret, Elisaha, Martha, Samuel, Narcissus, and Caleb. Caleb, Sr. died August 18, 1847, in Greene County, Missouri, and was buried in the Old Salem Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri. Mary died October 2, 1868, and was buried beside Caleb.
