Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Old Union Baptist Church at Joyce for William Patrick Townsend, 75, who died on Monday, March 10, in the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. G. McDaniel of Winnfield.

Mr. Townsend, a farmer by occupation, was widely known and was highly respected as a devout Christian who practiced his religion in daily life. He was a lifelong member of the Old Union Baptist Church at Joyce, in which community he made his home from early childhood.

Last rites were in charge of Rev. Alwin Stokes, Winnfield Presbyterian Church, assisted by Rev. H. H. McBride, Winnfield, and Rev. Fred Flurry, First Methodist Church, Winnfield.

Born at Vienna, Lincoln Parish, Louisiana, October 20, 1871, he came to Winn Parish at an early age and lived at Joyce until August, 1946, when he moved to the home of his daughter in Winnfield.

He married Miss Lula Taylor on December 17, 1890, and to this union were born the following children: Henry, Fort Necessity, La.; Ola, deceased; Charlie, Lufkin, Texas; Audie Townsend McDaniel, Winnfield; Mollie, deceased; Jesse, Lake Charles, La.

Mr. Townsend, following the death of his first wife, married Miss Sallie Keen on March 31, 1912. They had no children and Mrs. Townsend preceded him in death.

Ten grandchildren and two brothers, R. E. Townsend, Baton Rouge, and Bryant Townsend, Joyce, also survive him, in addition to a great number of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers at the funeral were Lum Sanders, John Lovell, Willis Wilkerson, Manual McDaniel, John Porter, and Lee Gates.
