Virginia T. Shannon, 88, died Sunday, December 14, 2008 at her home in Shelbyville. She worked as a secretary for a number of attorneys in Shelbyville, including Bill Hays, Sr. and Coleman Wright. She also worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at the Shannon Funeral Service for many years, though she considered herself more of a homemaker. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution as well as the Shelbyville First Baptist Church where she had sung in the Sanctuary Choir for many years. Mrs. Shannon enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, and formerly had sung with the Sweet Adelines women's group. She also played the organ for the Shannon Funeral Service for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred C. Tichenor, Sr. and Mattye Lee Stout Tichenor; and her daughter, Phyllis Thompson. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, William L. "Bill" Shannon of Shelbyville; her daughters, Peggy Soulsby (Gene) of Burley, ID, Jane Husband of Shelbyville, Nancy Stoner (Don) of Ormond Beach, FL, Mary McGillen (Geoffrey) of Shelbyville, and Virginia Adkins (Greg) of Versailles; her sons, Robert L. "Lee" Shannon, III (Janit) of Shelbyville and John Shannon (Lesley) of Shelbyville; her sister, Helen T. Montgomery of Shelbyville; her brother, Fred C. Tichenor, Jr. (Carol) of Louisville; and 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Shelbyville First Baptist Church with Dr. Fred Moffatt and Dr. Stephen C. Rice officiating. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. both Wednesday and Thursday at the Shannon Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Grove Hill Cemetery.
