Burial will be in Sikes Cemetery with Masonic graveside services. Mr. Gates died Wednesday in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Alexandria after a lengthy illness.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Gates was a member of the Jonesboro Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Willa Gates of Dodson; two sons, Ervin Gates of Bastrop and Robert Gates of Winnfield; one daughter, Mrs. Pat Abercrombie of Bernice; his mother, Mrs. Ella Gates of Dodson; three brothers, Harvey Gates of Chousatta [sic Coushatta], Floyd Gates of Winnfield and Alvie Gates of Calhoun; one sister, Mrs. Jettie Harper of Dodson; and three grandchildren.
