DODSON — Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield for Elson E. Gates, 58, of Dodson, with the Rev. Louis Moffett and the Rev. Rayford Higgs officiating.

Burial will be in Sikes Cemetery with Masonic graveside services. Mr. Gates died Wednesday in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Alexandria after a lengthy illness.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Gates was a member of the Jonesboro Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Willa Gates of Dodson; two sons, Ervin Gates of Bastrop and Robert Gates of Winnfield; one daughter, Mrs. Pat Abercrombie of Bernice; his mother, Mrs. Ella Gates of Dodson; three brothers, Harvey Gates of Chousatta [sic Coushatta], Floyd Gates of Winnfield and Alvie Gates of Calhoun; one sister, Mrs. Jettie Harper of Dodson; and three grandchildren.
