Floyd Edward Darr, 89, died at 4:50 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at Jersey Community Hospital.

Born in Jersey County, Ill., April 10, 1919, he was the son of Chester A. and R. Blanche (Schaaf) Darr.

He first married Mildred Archer June 8, 1946. He later married Gertrude Droege Lambert May 1, 1971, and she preceded him in death July 17, 2007.

He had been a farmer, carpenter and worked in Jerseyville at the John Deere dealership in past years. He also worked in the maintenance department of the Southwestern School District in the late 1960s. He retired from the Morgan County Housing Authority as the maintenance supervisor. He was a member of the Centenary Methodist Church in Jacksonville, the Jacksonville American Legion Post 279 and the Jacksonville Moose Lodge. A World War II Army veteran, he served in the Pacific.

Surviving are loving daughter and son-in-law, Ramona and Dean Nixon of Medora. He was the beloved grandfather of Angela Puskar and husband, George; Melissa Moran and husband, Jeff; Dena Harstad and husband, Andrew; Dwayne Nixon and wife, Hollie; and Jana Kirchner, all of Medora. He was the loving great-grandfather to Ramona, Kara and Tara Puskar, Evan and Trevor Moran, Samantha Shelby and Noah Harstad, Andrew, Hayden and Owen Nixon and Aubrey Kirchner, all of Medora. He was also proud great-great-grandfather of Griffin Thornton of Medora. Also surviving are a sister, Geraldine Cox of Jacksonville; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Clyde Darr of Brighton, Loren and Velva Jean Darr and Dale and Nina Darr, all of Medora; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Darr of Arizona and Fern Darr of Medora; and two stepsons, Charles and Charlyn Lambert of Texas and Paul and Penny Lambert of Beardstown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jon Archer Darr, who died at birth; a sister, Maurietta Stone; three brothers, Dwight, Eldon and Myron Darr; and a half-brother, Everett Dabbs.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. service Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Targhetta and Wooldridge Funeral Home in Medora. The Rev. Ray Robinson will officiate. Burial will be at Shipman Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Southwestern Foundation for Education Excellence.
