Walter Hawbaker Shoeman was
a son of John S. Shoeman and of
Amanda Hawbaker Shoeman, who had
come to Iowa from Pennsylvania.

Walter Shoeman was born at Waukee,
Iowa on March 18, 1883. He
died at Tracy, Minnesota on May
3, 1967 at the age of 84.
He spent his youth in Iowa, around
Waukee. On February 23,
1904 he was married to Effie Campbell
of Waukee, at Omaha, Neb.
They made their home on a farm
near Waukee, Iowa. In 1918 they
moved to Walnut Grove, Minnesota.
At the age of 35 he went into
the auction business. This was his
delight, and it was to prove to be
his main work the rest of his
life. In the Fall of 1924 they moved
to Tracy, and in this area became
widely known as an auctioneer.

To Walter and Effie Shoeman
there were born five children: Florence,
Kathryn, Leo, Lawrence, and
Harold. Florence died at the age
of 4-1/2.

Mrs. Shoeman preceded him in
death on January 24, 1964.
Surviving him are his daughter,
Mrs. George A. Stapleton of Sacramento,
California, and his three
sons, Leo, Lawrence, and Harold
of Tracy.

Also surviving him are the following
brothers and sisters: Irvin
Shoeman of Perry, Iowa; Mrs. Mary
Burkett of Perry, Iowa; Robert Shoeman
of Waukee, Iowa; Mrs. Eva
Kuehl of Waukee, Iowa; and Dr.
John D. Shoeman of Atlantic, Iowa. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Masonic
Lodge at Walnut Grove,and
the Scottish Rite consistory at Winona, Minnesota.
