CHRISTOPHER VANDEVANDER was born on December 15, 1777 in Greenbrier County, Virginia; later became West Virginia. He moved to the Mississippi Territory, that later became Washington County, Alabama. Christopher is listed as signer of a petition to the United States Congress as to the people's grievances in this territory. The petition is dated in the year 1815 and he is on the 1816 tax list. He is on the 1830 U. S. Census in Washington County, Alabama and is on the 1840 U. S. Census in Kemper County, Mississippi. Christopher and Hiram were issued a patent for land they had selected in Kemper County in 1837 signed by President Martin Van Buren.

Kemper County was established in 1833 from the Choctaw Cession, 1832. CHRISTOPHER moved to Kemper County, Mississippi where he and his wife lived for the rest of their lives. He died November 10, 1862. His Will was executed on 26 Oct 1859 and was admitted for probate and recorded on November 24, 1862. He married MARY AKERS circa 1800 in Greenbrier County, Virginia, the daughter of SIMON AKERS and wife, MARY G. SMITH. She was born January 8, 1784 and died December 7, 1876 and is buried beside her husband. For whatever reason, MARY AKERS surname got changed from AKERS to ACHORS.

CHILDREN OF CHRISTOPHER AND MARY ARE LISTED UNDER MARY AKERS VANDEVANDER MEMORIAL.

The following is a copy of the POWER OF ATTORNEY given by CHRISTOPHER to his son, HIRAM, to represent him during the Administration of the Estates of his father, JACOB VANDEVANDER and of his father-in-law, SIMON AKERS, which establishes relationship between children and parents. Also, noted, is the fact that her father's surname in this original document is spelled AKERS.
