PIONEER SCHOOL TEACHER IS CALLED BY DEATH
David B. English passed away in St. Elizabeth's hospital in Yakima last Saturday evening about six o'clock. Death was due to complications following an attack of the flue in the late winter from which he was unable to recover. He was 73 years old.
Mr. English came to White Bluffs from Yakima about eight years ago and for the past few years has been the caretaker for the White Bluffs high school.
He was a former school teacher having taught in the schools of Oregon and Washington in the early days. He was born in California but spent a good part of his life in Oregon, in the vicinity of Portland. He celebrated his golden wedding anniversary last August (August 7, 1879 to Alice Lingenfelter) at Deer Island, his boyhood home. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Portland and his funeral services were conducted at Deer Island, Wednesday, under lodge auspices, and he was laid to rest in the cemetery there.
Besides his widow, Mrs. Alice L. English of White Bluffs, he leaves four sons, F. A. English of White Bluffs; Charles English of Portland; Henry English of Doris, California and William O. English of Seattle; one brother, Charles H. English of Deer Island; and one sister, Mrs. Ida E. Bonser, also of Deer Island. (Preceded in death by two daughters, Lydia Bisset and Alice English.)
