Mrs. Alice Loretta English Was of Pioneer Family


Another pioneer of this area joined the forces on the other side when death called Alice Loretta English on February 25th at the home of her sister, Mrs. W. B. Colvin. Mrs. English was 78 years, nine months and 10 days of age.
Mrs. English last year suffered a broken hip and upon dismissal from the hospital came to the Colvin home at Marshland where she has been since last May. The past two weeks she has been confined to her bed.
Member of Pioneer Family
Mrs. English was a member of a pioneer family in Oregon and was born on May 15, 1861 in Washington county at the present site of Hillsboro to Mary C. Bryant Lingenfelter and William E. Lingenfelter. She was married better than 61 years ago to David B. English at Marshald. It was there their fiest child was born. Mr. English was a schoolmaster and soon after the family moved to Skamokawa, Ilwaco, Yakima, Walla Walla and White Bluffs and other Washington towns. Mr. English preceded her in death several years (as did two daughters, Mrs. Lydia Bisset and Alice English).
Survivors include four sons, Frederick A. of White Bluffs, Wn.; William O. of Seattle; Henry J. of Dorris, Calif.; and Charles A. of Portland. Seven grandchildren and one great grandchild survive as does one brother, George Lingenfelter of Port Ludlow, Wash;, and two sisters, Mrs. H. L. Colvin of Aurora and Mrs. W. B. Colvin of Marshland. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Clatskanie Presbyterian church with Rowan A. O'Brien officiating. Interment was made in the Deer Island cemetery where she was laid to rest beside her husband. The A. G. Anderson Funeral home was in charge of the last rites.
