John T. Wood, age 80, a pioneer resident of Wapello county, passed away at his residence eight miles south of the city this morning at 10 o'clock after a long illness.
He came to this country in early manhood and has been a continuous residence since. He resided in Green township the greater share of the time.
Funeral services will be held from the residence Thursday. The hours has not been set. Interment at the Ormanville cemetery.
John Thomas Wood served during the Civil War. He enlisted in August 17, 1861 in Iowa. He enlisted as a private at the age of 28. He enlisted in Company E., 3rd Calvary Regiment Iowa on September 4, 1861. Promoted to Full Farrier on January 1, 1864. Mustered out Company E., 3rd Cavalry Regiment, Iowa on August 9, 1865 at Atlanta, Georgia.
