Thomas J. Farris enlisted in the Civil War as a Private on February l, 1864 from Xenia, IL He was assigned to Company I, 48th Infantry Regiment of IL This Unit fought in Germantown, PA in May of 1864, Dallas, GA at the end of May. It participated in the Atlanta campaign marched with Sherman to the sea and up through the Carolinas, then to Washington and on back to Louisville, KY. Thomas was mustered out on August 15, 1865 in Little Rock AR. His wife, Nancy, obtained a pension for his service in the Civil War.
