JoAnn Schwalen Hiltbrunn

JoAnn was born in Tacoma at St. Joseph Hospital, the youngest of four daughters of the late Bernard and Ursula Schwalen. She attended St. Patrick's grade school, Aquinas Academy, Stadium High, Class of '41 and the U of W, Alpha Phi Sorority. For several years she worked in San Francisco for an investment banking firm. Upon returning to Tacoma, she was cashier/office manager for Merrill Lynch and then Dean Witter. Later, she retired from Tacoma School District. She was a founding member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. She is survived by husband Dick, son Dick Jr. (Paola), ten loving grandchildren, one darling great-granddaughter, all of Fountain Green, Utah. Also survived by Sister Betty Onstad and Marjorie (Merritt) Nelson, both of Tacoma. Predeceased by son Thomas, and Sister Julie McNerthney. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 at 9:00 am. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
