Hiram E. Matson living north of Nora received injuries at his farm home Wednesday, October 27th, which resulted in his death the following morning at the Superior hospital. He left the house to put the windmill in gear and evidently was attacked by a mad 2-year-old hornless bull. He was found in an unconscious state by his son Rollie near evening, and rushed to the hospital in Superior, but never regained consciousness. So the circumstances surrounding his tragic death will never be definitely known.

Hiram E. Matson, son of Benjamin and Julia Matson, was born in Warren County, Iowa, August 22, 1858 and died at the Brodstone Hospital in Superior, Nebraska, October 28, 143 (sic); aged 85 years, 2 months and 5 days. He came to Nuckolls County, Nebraska in 1879.

He was united in marriage to Miss Margaret R. Parr on September 9, 1885, who died February 15, 1891. On September 28, 1893 he was married to Miss Martha J. Williams and to this union were born six children, two dying in infancy.

He was affiliated with the Methodist church (sic) while still a young man. He leaves to mourn his death, his devoted wife, two sons Rollie of Nora, Guy of Omaha; two daughters, Mrs. W.M. Kenley of Edgar, Mrs. Everett Nelson of Davenport; one foster daughter, Mrs. Viola Farver of Colfax, Iowa; four grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was a pioneer of this county and led an honest and upright life.

Goodbye, dear Father, rest in peace,
Your labor now is o'er;
Beyond the clouds, beyond the stars,
You've reached the Golden Shore.

Funeral services were conducted at the Klawitter funeral parlor of Nelson, on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. Clarence V. Powell, pastor of the Methodist church (sic) of Nelson. Music was furnished by a mixed quartette: Jesse Hamel and Mrs. C. Shipherd of Nora, Mrs. Emerson Powell and Lowell Powell of Nelson. Mrs. Swigart presided at the piano.

The body was laid to rest in the Nora cemetery (sic).
